The Most Effective Gun Disarming Techniques

So, you read the title of this post and thought to yourself, why, exactly, should I bother clicking play on this video?

The answer to that is quite simple….the same reason it’s important to know how to perform CPR or have an emergency funds savings account. We don’t anticipate having to save someone’s life or the car breaking down but we know it could happen and we prepare for it, right?

Why not take a few moments to learn a technique that could possibly save your life and de-escalate a potentially violent situation?

I would suggest, however, that you actually practice this many times before even attempting to use it in a real life situation. And your motive should never be that of hero status but because you had zero choice. Your life should be equivalently on the line at that point. However, anytime someone is pointing a gun at you, your life is potentially seconds away from being non-existent. This is what you call blurred lines. Not being able to tell the difference.

With so many incidents of people shooting up schools, movie theaters, malls, etc….as well as murder suicides, robberies, home invasions, domestic violence and all of the other foolishness going on in today’s society, being able to properly disarm a violent fool is certainly better than the alternative? What’chu think?

Thank you functional self-defense for this video, I’m looking forward to practicing this technique until I’m able to do it in my sleep!

Do you think knowing how to disarm someone is a valuable skill? What are your thoughts on the disarming techniques used in this video?

    1. When properly done it would most definitely be a life saver! I wouldn’t want anyone grabbing a gun from someone without knowing exactly what they’re doing first, though! 🙂

        1. Good point and very true!! Regardless of training or special skills, having a gun pointed directly at you would be a bit frightening, to say the least.

          1. Whoa!! Please do share when you get a chance. Gosh, I’m so glad you survived it…there are few things scarier than knowing your life is in the palm of another…a desperate fool at that.

  1. Thanks for the post and the video! I watched it and really liked it although I do not like guns. I am just afraid of them to be honest! I didn’t grow up around them and have no experience! The video is very helpful and made me less afraid! I like watching them they are so quick and really show the techniques! Thanks

    1. Hey Lynz! Guns can definitely be scary, especially in the hands of the wrong people. That’s why I’m glad you took the time to watch the video. Not everyone is comfortable with guns, I had a fear of them for a very long time after witnessing the accidental death of my 15 year old friend in the early 90’s. In your situation, I’m pretty sure I would not have been comfortable with a gun in the home either.

  2. Tasha, you bring so many important and critical topics to our attention; and I’m always intrigued with what you will tackle next. This is fabulous and I think it would be a great class, like martial arts to have taught, so people like me could actually practice. The video is awesome, but I’m a hands-on learner and to have a teacher who knew what they were doing, could help save a life. THANK YOU for this interesting post. Carrie, A Mother’s Shadow
