A woman named Julie Fitzgerald from Rockford, IL became concerned after seeing spots in the back of her 2-year-old’s eye. She starting doing what most mothers do when they become concerned about their child’s health…she went online and researched.
What she found out is not for the faint of heart.
She learned that there was an instance where someone with eye cancer had taken a picture of their eyes and one showed up as red while the one with cancer was white.
So Julie took a picture of her toddler’s eyes and soon learned that he did, in fact, have cancer in his eye. Her son Avery was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, which is a cancer that develops in the retina.
He had to have his eye completely removed and is now cancer free. His doctors said that it is most likely he’d been blind in that eye since birth but the cancer emerged only six months before.
Thankfully, her quick action saved Avery’s life. His father is now a firm believer in a mother’s intuition.
